Ban for the optometrist who made bogus laser surgery claims

An optometrist who told patients that laser surgery would give them ‘much better’ than 20/20 vision has banned for 12 months. John Margetts told an undercover BBC reporter in Bristol’s Optical Express that refractive eye surgery was 100 per cent safe and compsolory ‘mandatory’ for RAF pilots, the General Optical Council heard. The optometrist admitted to using misleading terms, but denied doing so purposefully. His fitness to practise was today found to be impaired, and he received a 12-month suspension….
