OXFORD SEX GANG: SEVEN ASIANS CONVICTED

OXFORD Seven members of a child sex ring who forced underage girls to commit acts of 'extreme depravity' are facing years behind bars today (Tues). Their victims, aged between 11 and 15, were groomed and plied with alcohol and hard drugs before being gang-raped and sexually assaulted. Abuse sessions would go on for days and involve the use of knives, meat cleavers, baseball bats and other bizarre sex toys. One was even forced to undergo an illegal abortion at a backstreet clinic when she fell pregnant by one of her tormentors. Others were beaten, burned and even branded to force them to comply.

SHAMALI: ROAD RAGE REFUGEE GETS TWO YEARS

HAMPSTEAD, NORTH LONDON; KILBURN, NORTHWEST LONDON An Iranian refugee who stabbed a car passenger after a road rage row has been jailed for two years. Ehsan Khozanie Shamali, 35, pulled out a pen knife and drove it into the stomach of Mohammed Islam as they squared up in the street. Shamali then abandoned his car and fled to a nearby friend's house to hide from police for three hours, before reporting his vehicle as stolen. Mr Islam needed an emergency operation after the attack in Fellows Road, Hampstead, north London, but narrowly avoided damage to all his major organs, Blackfriars Crown Court heard.

PRAMANIK: DEATH CERT DOCTOR GUILTY OF 'DEPLORABLE' DISHONESTY

SALFORD A doctor who signed certificates allowing bodies to be cremated without examining them was found guilty of 'deplorable' dishonesty today (tues). Dr Amit Pramanik, 56, banked £73.50 per patient from grieving relatives after falsely claiming he had carried out medical examinations on the deceased at Salford Royal Hospital. NHS guidelines brought in after the Harold Shipman enquiry require a second doctor to countersign the death certificate completed by the treating physician after examining the body to confirm the cause of death and rule out foul play. But Dr Pramanik flouted the rules by signing cremation forms without first carrying out a medical examination.

NURSE FACES RETRIAL OVER MERCURY POISONING

SHEFFORD, BEDS A dental nurse accused of poisoning her boss with mercury after being disciplined is facing a retrial today (Tues). Ravinder Kaur, 34, is said to have slipped the toxic metal into practice manager Laura Knowles' coffee. Ms Knowles, 36, was hospitalised with stomach cramps, nausea, and dizziness after taking a sip at the Shams Moopen Dental Surgery, in Shefford, Bedfordshire. Traces of the metal, used in dental fillings, were later found in her stomach, Blackfriars Crown Court heard.

ADEYELA: TWINS ACCUSED OF STEALING LEWIS' GIFT VOUCHERS

TULSE HILL Two twins stole more than £17,000 of gift vouchers while working for John Lewis, a court heard today Mary and Hannah Adeyela, both 26, worked at the retailer's flagship department store on Oxford for five years and took £17,000 worth of gift vouchers, it is claimed. Hannah is accused of stealing £11,239 of vouchers, while Mary is said to have taken £6,825 between June 2008 and February. The pair, who gave no indication to a single count of theft by an employee, were identified by the use of their personal email addresses, it was said.

MILLER: NURSE SUSPENDED FOR TAKING TRAVEL JABS

CHORLEY, LANCS A depressed nurse who pocketed vaccinations from her surgery and begged a colleague to inject her was suspended for a year today (Tues). April Miller took the travel jabs and administered them to herself after the co-worker refused to help. She also bungled a patient's injections by inoculating them with typhoid instead of hepatitis B and incorrectly recorded the results of a smear test. A string of charges was found proved against her at a Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing in central London.

LEWIS: CINEMA ROW SPARKED BURGER BAR KILLING

FINSBURY PARK, WOOD GREEN, NORTH LONDON; BARKING, ESSEX A teenager stabbed a man to death in Burger King after a gang brawl broke out at a cinema screening of Taken 2, a court heard today (Tues). Daniel Lewis, 19, had been chased through the restaurant after clashing with Pelivan Zekaj, 23, and his friends. As the victim was leaving the scene, Lewis emerged armed with a knife and challenged them to continue the fight, it is alleged. He then plunged the blade into Mr Zekaj's heart, inflicting a wound more than six inches deep, the Old Bailey was told.

COOPER: NURSE BRANDED PATIENTS 'DISGUSTING'

YORK A nurse branded dementia patients 'disgusting' for soiling their bedding and threatened to strangle a woman with a scarf, a hearing was told. Christina Cooper is accused of physically and verbally abusing four patients at the Connaught Care Home in Fulford, York, which is run by the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution. Cooper told a resident he was 'acting like an animal' and threatened to throttle another, the Nursing and Midwifery Council was told.

MCCABE: FANTASY FIGURINE BANDIT FACES JAIL

DAGENHAM, ESSEX A thief who broke into his neighbour's home and stole 84 Lord of the Rings figurines is facing jail. Daniel McCabe, 27, was 'in drink' when he burgled the flat in Ford Road, Dagenham, Essex, on February 9. McCabe helped himself to his neighbour's DVD player and 84 collectible action figures from the epic fantasy film.

ABERCROMBIE:MAYFAIR HOTEL CONCIERGE GUILTY OF TRYING TO RAPE GUEST

MAYFAIR, CENTRAL LONDON; TIPTON, WEST MIDLANDS A concierge at a five-star Mayfair hotel faces jail today (tues) for trying to smother an advertising executive with a pillow after sneaking into her room to molest her. Paul Abercrombie, 24, pounced on the American, punching her repeatedly before dragging her onto the bed and sexually assaulting her at the Westbury Hotel in Conduit Street. The woman, who lost a tooth and suffered a black eye, feared she would die as Abercrombie tried to smother her but bravely fought back until he fled, Southwark Crown Court heard. A jury of eight women and four men took almost 13 hours to convict Abercrombie of attempted rape, sexual assault, committing an offence, namely assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with intent to commit a sexual offence and trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence.

MEHMET:DETECTIVE SUSPENDED FOR FAILING TO INVESTIGATE RAPE

UPPER HOLLOWAY, NORTH LONDON A detective was suspended after he failed to investigate a rape attack on a 16-year-old girl, a court heard. Kismet Mehmet, 44, allegedly dragged the schoolgirl into a house, pinned her to a bed and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint in the summer of 1991. The alleged victim did not report the attack until after her mother passed away in December 2010, Blackfriars Crown Court heard. But Detective Constable Carl Ryan failed to investigate the case with 'due diligence' after taking statements from the woman and Mehmet.
