BLAKELEY:BAN FOR BUNGLING MIDWIFE WHO PUT PATIENTS AT RISK

CAMBRIDGE An 'incompetent' midwife who put mothers and babies in danger by bungling basic checks and procedures has been suspended for 12 months. Stella Blakeley needed almost constant supervision because she was unable to properly monitor crucial heart and breathing rates while working for the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In one case a worrying drop in an unborn baby's pulse was picked up only a colleague stepped in to start proper monitoring, with the midwife deemed unsafe to care for mother's by herself. With another mother, Blakeley dangerously used fundal pressure - where a midwife pushes down on the abdomen to help move the baby out - while pulling on the umbilical cord.

SUN'S ROYAL MAN IN COURT CHARGED WITH BRIBING ARMY BASE OFFICIALS

ACCRINGTON, LANCS; SANDHURST, SURREY; AYLESFORD, KENT; BARNSLEY, YORKS The Sun's royal correspondent Duncan Larcombe appeared in court today (Weds) charged with bribing officials at the army base where Prince Harry trained. Larcombe, 37, is accused of paying a total of £23,000 to ex-Sandhurst colour sergeant John Hardy, 43, and Hardy's wife Claire Hardy, 39. The couple, both of (6) Millbrook Close, Oswaldswystle, Accrington, Lancashire, are said to have accepted 34 payments for stories relating to the royal family at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in Surrey, between February and October 2008. All three are jointly charged with conspiring to commit misconduct in public office, a charge to which they have not yet formally entered a plea.

JABBER:SEXUAL PREDATOR COULD BE FREE IN LESS THAN FOUR MONTHS

HOLLOWAY, NORTH LONDON A sexual predator who attacked two women after stalking them late at night could be freed from prison in less than four months. Iraq-born immigrant Corow Jabber, 21, has an appalling record including a sexual assault on a train passenger when he was just 15. Judge Aidan Marron QC said Jabber had a 'disturbing' history of offending, but jailed him for just two years at Blackfriars Crown Court. But the serial offender could be freed before the end of August after spending more than eight months in prison on remand.

ABERCROMBIE: HOTEL DOORMAN IN ATTEMPTED RAPE HORROR

TIPTON, WEST MIDLANDS A concierge at a five-star Mayfair hotel tried to smother an American businesswoman with a pillow after sneaking into her room to rape her, a court heard. Paul Abercrombie, 24, attempted to silence the 'petrified' woman's screams as he tried to force himself upon her, jurors heard. The guest had a tooth knocked out and suffered a 'nasty' black eye after her alleged ordeal at the Westbury Hotel in Conduit Street last November 13. She sobbed uncontrollably in her police interview as she told how she feared for her life after finding Abercrombie in her room.

SMYLIE: KILLER MUGGER FACES LIFE

LISSON GROVE A street mugger who killed a man for £100 is facing years behind bars. Terry Smylie, 27, pushed 45 year-old Michael Walser to the ground minutes after the victim withdrew the cash from a bank machine. Mr Walser hit his head on the pavement but initially shrugged off the injury and went home. Five days later he was found dead from a brain haemorrhage at his flat in Gloucester Terrace, Paddington, west London.

BARNETT-ROHOMAN: LIFE FOR JEALOUS KILLER

LEWISHAM A knifeman who murdered an aspiring lawyer after catching his former lover in bed with her new man has been jailed for life. Delaney Barnett-Rohoman, 27, was incensed when he discovered Josie Hall, the mother of his children, with Nash Lee Walsh-Trew, 24. He attacked Mr Walsh-Trew, and when the victim's best friend Harold Muzeremwi tried to intervene Barnett-Rohoman thrust a kitchen knife twice into his back. Mr Muzeremwi, 20, died less than an hour later after his pulmonary artery was severed in the attack, Woolwich Crown Court heard.

MILLER: NURSE ASKED COLLEAGUE TO INJECT HER

CHORLEY A depressed nurse pocketed vaccinations from her surgery and then asked a colleague to inject her, a hearing was told. April Miller took the jabs and administered them to herself after the co-worker refused to help her, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard. She is also accused of bungling a patient's vaccinations by innoculating them with typhoid instead of hepatitis B - before deleting records of the mix-up. With the same patient, she is said to have incorrectly recorded the result of a smear test.

BUSINESSMEN FACE TRIAL FOR MULTI MILLION FRAUD

NOTTINGHAM, SHEFFIELD Eleven people accused of involvement in a plot to fleece businesses out of millions of pounds will stand trial next year. The group allegedly earned up to £6m through a 'long firm' fraud, in which they repeatedly purchased items on credit and resold them without repaying suppliers. The fraud, which allegedly took place between 1998 and 2007, is said to have sparked one of the biggest ever probes by the Department of Trade and Industry. Simon Ludgate, 45, Philip Williams, 53, Jonathan Noon, Calvin Harris, 50, Eric Harris, 70, Demitris Bains, Anthoula Bains, Sukhi Samrai, 45, Kirankumar Mistry, David Wright, 37, and Florence Hoxha are all due to stand trial in January over their involvement in the alleged scam.

GARDNER: NURSE'S JUG THREAT

STOKE A bullying nurse threatened to pour a jug of water over a patient unless they took a bath, a hearing was today. Michelle Gardner, a senior staff nurse, is said to have held a jug over Patient A's head, and also to have threatened not to bring her dinner. One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Nursing and Midwifery Council: 'She said if the patient did not have a bath then they wouldn't be allowed dinner. 'I would never resort to such a method to get a patient to bathe. It is unethical.

OJARA: EIGHT YEARS FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT RAPIST

STRATFORD A failed asylum seeker who repeatedly raped an online date after she said she wanted to stop seeing him has been jailed for eight years. Fred Ojara, 33, brutally attacked his 25-year-old victim just days into a 'whirlwind romance', after she agreed to move in with him after a single meeting. After repeatedly pestering the Swedish woman for sex, Ojara snapped when the woman said she was having second thoughts about their fledgling relationship. He forced himself on her five times in a single night, before taking her to a GP in the morning - where she immediately told the doctor what had happened to her.

PETERSON: FINANCIER FACES TRIAL OVER HEDGE FUND COLLAPSE

OTHAM, KENT A Swedish financier accused of hoodwinking investors before his hedge fund collapsed with £370m worth of debts is due to face trial next year. Magnus Peterson, 50, is said to have set up Weavering Capital UK Ltd using £500,000 he had from a previous venture. Peterson allegedly promised 'limited gains and losses' to investors who eventually lost everything after the hedge fund collapsed in 2009.
