BASSETT: NO BAN FOR SYRINGE BLUNDER NURSE

LINCOLNSHIRE A nurse who injected a schoolgirl with a syringe she had accidentally pricked her own finger with has been given a one-year conditions to practise order. Alison Bassett, 49, knew the needle was contaminated but continued to vaccinate the patient and failed to report the incident until she was confronted about the lapse a week later. The nurse was giving injections of the HPV vaccine, used to prevent infections causing cervical cancer, to girls aged 12 and 13 at a school in Lincolnshire on September 20, 2011.

BLACKMAN: TENT CITY RAPE ACCUSED 'KEPT TALLY OF CONQUESTS'

CITY OF LONDON; WESTON-SUPER-MARE An anarchist leader kept a tally of his 'conquests' on the side of his protest camp tent outside St Paul's Cathedral, the Old Bailey heard today (Fri). Malcolm Blackman, 45, used his position as the self-styled leader of Anonymous UK to seduce fellow activists, it was said. Blackman is alleged to have raped one of the female protestors, aged in her 40s, twice over the course of a week, including once when she had passed out drunk. He boozed on two bottles of whiskey before forcing himself on her and on another occasion tied her hands behind her back with cable ties, jurors have been told.

PARMAR: LOCUM FACES BAN OVER BOGUS SHIFT CLAIMS

WATFORD, MAIDSTONE A locum doctor who billed the NHS for shifts he didn’t work is facing a ban today after a medical tribunal found his fitness to practise is impaired. Dr Sunil Parmar was earning £2,500 a week working at Maidstone Hospital, Kent, in 2011 when he fraudulently invoiced the NHS trust for more than £6,500 he was not entitled to. He submitted six false invoices over a period of nearly three months claiming to have worked 12 weekends he knew he did not.

CRONJE: SPORTS VENUE DENIES BLAME FOR BANANA BOAT DEATH

BEDFONT CHOBHAM A leading sports venue has today (Fri) denied responsibility for the death of an 11-year-old girl who was flung from a banana boat. Mari-Simon Cronje was killed after being hit by a speed boat at the Prince's Sporting Club during a friend's birthday party. The driver of the speed boat towing the 20ft inflatable is said to have failed to spot the school girl as she bobbed helplessly in the water. Jonathan Laidlaw, representing the directors of the sports venue, one of Europe's largest for water sports, today entered not guilty pleas on their behalf against charges of corporate manslaughter and failing to discharge a duty.

WITHAM: LET OFF FOR GRANNY WHO POSED AS MURDERED MILLIONAIRESS

MAIDA VALE A grandmother who posed as a murdered millionairess as part of a plot to plunder her assets was spared jail today (FRI). Julie Witham, 47, used the passport and driving licence of missing former oil executive Carole Waugh, 50, to hire out a car. The bill, which was charged to an American Express card fraudulently taken out in the businesswoman's name, eventually came to £1,197. A few weeks later Ms Waugh's body was found in the boot of a Volkswagen Golf at a lock-up garage in Lime Court, New Malden, south London.

TULLOW OIL: WITNESS DESCRIBED AS A LIAR

DUBLIN An oil executive was today branded a liar for evidence he gave in a multi-million pound tax case. Chief financial officer of Heritage Oil, Paul Atherton, was described as a 'patently dishonest witness' as Tullow Oil closed their legal battle over a £209.5m tax bill. He was said to have lied under cross examination, as the court was urged not to accept anything he said unless it was corroborated by another witness. Tullow's lawyer David Wolfson QC said: 'He was a patently dishonest witness, and that is not a submission I enjoy making.

MCDIARMID: NO JAIL FOR BURSAR WHO STOLE £55K FROM PRIMARY SCHOOL

TAMESIDE A bursar who stole more than £55,000 from a primary school over five years has been spared jail after a judge accepted she was suffering from depression. Susan McDiarmid, 52, forged signatures, got the headmaster to sign blank cheques and used the school credit card to syphon funds from the Tameside local authority. She was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to one count of theft and five of fraud at an earlier hearing.

CURTIS: DAD DENIES KILLING DAUGHTER

SHEERWATER, SURREY; EASTBOURNE, EAST SUSSEX A father denied killing his two year-old daughter denied manslaughter when he appeared at the Old Bailey today (FRI). Ben Keith Curtis, 29, is said to have shaken Ocean Elliott at their home in Spencer Close, Sheerwater, near Woking, Surrey. The girl was taken for treatment to St Thomas' Hospital in London but died on 13 August 2009. Curtis appeared in the dock of court to plead not guilty to the single charge of manslaughter.

EDONMI: LET-OFF FOR NURSE WHO LET SON ROAM THE STREETS

SOUTH NORWOOD, SOUTH LONDON A nurse who allowed her three-year-old son to roam the streets barefoot while she left home to charge her electricity key, has been given a one year caution today (Friday). Dorothy Edonmi thought she had locked her son in the house while she went out but a neighbour called the police saying they had seen a small child wearing nothing but an over-sized t-shirt dodging traffic in South Norwood, south London. Officers took the little boy home and had to wait thirty-minutes before Edonmi returned, saying she had been to a neighbour’s house for only a few minutes before going to the shops.

BAQA: COUNCIL CLERK WATCHED TERROR FLICKS AT DESK

HACKNEY, EAST LONDON; BARKING, ESSEX A council worker who watched terrorist propaganda in his office was jailed for two years today (Fri). Khalid Baqa, 48, also trawled radical Islamic websites from his desk in Hackney Council's benefits department. The revenue clerk was caught with a stash of 352 CD-ROMs stuffed with extremist manuals in his home, car and workplace. One disc was even discovered in the CD drive of his work laptop and had been viewed repeatedly.

COURTNEY: CELEBRITY GANGSTER SAID AFTER BEATING: 'LET'S CALL IT A DRAW'

GREENWICH Celebrity gangster Dave Courtney was punched to the ground and repeatedly hit by his stepson until he said: 'Let's call it a draw.' Courtney had fallen out with Genson Courtney, 23, over plans to build a 'shack' in his back garden in case his home was repossessed. They went to Plumstead Common, southeast London, to settle their differences but Courtney came off worse, the Old Bailey was told. Less than two weeks later Genson Courtney was shot though the eye outside his girlfriend's flat.
