Student ‘tried to join IS’ in Syria

A former Sheffield University student accused of trying to join IS in Syria has appeared in court. Khalil Maher, 21, was arrested trying to board a plane at Heathrow Airport on 18 April after travelling from his home in Sheffield. He was allegedly trying to meet up with his friends Ahmed Hadrami and Mohamed Kaabar, who left the UK for Syria in March last year.
