‘Short-sighted driver killed pensioner’

A short-sighted driver continued on his journey to hospital after he ran over and killed pensioner crossing the road, a court heard. The red light was flashing on the pedestrian crossing when Wilfred Richards, 83, stepped off the pavement, but driver David Goddard, 53, would have stopped in time if his eyesight was sound, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard.
