South American gangs flog Evening Standard to pulpers
South American gangs are helping themselves van loads of free copies of the London Evening Standard to sell on to recycling companies, a court heard. The syndicate, thought to be Ecuadorian, are targeting batches of the newspaper being handed left for commuters at stations in central London. Jamie Castillo, 32, was accused of stealing copies of the free newspaper at Waterloo Station but the charge was withdrawn at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
