A 20 year old Hanwell man who took on a 30,000 pounds mortgage
and a bank loan and then got into financial difficulties, stole
regularly from the Wester Avenue Service Station where he was a part-
time cashier.
But at Isleworth Crown Court today (Wednesday), Mark Anthony
Arnold, of Riverside Close, who had never been in trouble before and
who stole nearly 500 pounds in six months, was jailed for four months.
Arnold, a product controller with Beechams, pleaded guilty to
11 charges of theft of sums totalling 481.
14 pounds.
Most of the thefts were done with an adulterated Barclaycard
belonging to his mother, said Mr Christopher Simpson, prosecuting.
But in September last year, his employer, Mr Norman Freid, changed his
accounting system and discovered losses.
‘He did an audit on the defendant’s shift and discovered that
he was 115 pounds short on September 12’ said counsel.
‘Two days
later, having informed the police, he repeated the exercise and found
a loss of 117.
21 pounds’.
Arnold was arrested and the other thefts came to light.
He
told police he was buying a flat and had borrowed from the bank and
was in debt, said counsel.
A woman was led screaing from the court as Arnold was jailed.
