A thug who took part in the ‘horrifying’ knifepoint attack on
an elderly woman in her own home has been jailed.
Nigel George, 20, ransacked the frail 72-year-old pensioner’s
flat while his partner, who has so far evaded justice, held her
at knifepoint.
George, of Peabody Estate, Stepney, was found guilty of
aggravated burglary for the raid on the old lady’s flat in Bow Road,
Bow.
At the Old Bailey, Judge John Rogers QC sentenced him to
three years youth detention for the callous raid a few days
before Christmas last year.
He told George: ‘Nobody listening to the facts of this case
could have felt anything but a sense of horror.
‘She was held at knifepoint and told if she moved or said
anything, it would be driven through her heart.
‘She had told the court: “May I say, it was a little traumatic.
”
‘It is phrase that certainly sent a chill through me and, I
think, through the rest of the court.
‘I accept that you now regret the hardship and terror but
clearly this is a case where the protection of the public
must be paramount.
‘I feel I must pass a substantial prison sentence.
‘
But as the three year sentence was announced, George smiled and
gave a jubilant thumbs up to friends and family in the public
gallery.
