million passport scam, spent cash he pocketed on plastic surgery for his wife and on a fleet of sports cars.
Emmett, an executive officer earning a modest pnds stlg 25,000 salary, lived like a millionaire and admitted frittering away pnds stlg 250,000 in just eight months.
Among his collection of cars was a pnds stlg 50,000 Porsche Carrera, a TVR, a BMW and a Lotus Elise which, it is rumoured, he would race at Brands Hatch.
But after he was convicted of fraud at the Old Bailey today he could only gaze ruefully up at his attractive blonde wife Elizabeth, seated in the public gallery.
A legal source close to the case said he believed some of the money went on plastic surgery for Elizabeth.
Mark Gadsden, for the prosecution, announced today that there will be a probe into Emmett’s assets over the next few months before a confiscation hearing is finally heard on November 30.
The court was told that Emmett, now declared bankrupt, has transferred at least three properties which he owned into his wife’s name while others have been sold.
And Mr Gadsden said it is believed cash has been paid into a Channel Island bank account.
The convictions of Emmett and lawyer Christian Jideofo today came after a protracted five year enquiry by the Immigration Service Enforcement Section based near Heathrow Airport in Harmondsworth, west London.

The investigation was sparked in February 1995 when a solicitor contacted chief immigration officer Charles Monks to say that he had a client with a stamp in his passport that he was not entitled to.
Emmett was originally arrested in June 1996 but he was not actually charged until October last year due to the painstaking nature of the enquiry.
After Emmett and Jideofo were locked up pending sentence on Friday a spokesman for the Immigration Service said:
‘These verdicts are the successful conclusion of a lengthy and joint investigation by the Metropolitan Police and the Immigration Service.
‘The investigation demonstrates are commitment to rooting out public corruption.
