Trial for epileptic driver after traffic island crash

An epileptic driver who ploughed onto a busy traffic island and crushed a woman causing her leg to be amputated will stand trial next March. Carlo Smith, 38, allegedly injured two pedestrians after swerving between lanes in his Ford Focus on Commercial Street, Whitechapel, east London. Smith, who suffers from epilepsy, had not taken his medication before driving to work on January 13 last year, it was said. He appeared at Wood Green Crown Court charged with causing serious injury…
