A father accused of raping a woman in his flat aft

A father accused of raping a woman in his flat after luring her her home from the pub walked free from court today (Thurs) after he was cleared of the attack.

Basil Senior, 33, had arranged to meet the pretty 29-year-old and her friend for drinks before asking for her opinion on clothes he had bought for his son.

He was accused of raping her after ushering her back to his flat in Edmonton.

But Senior insisted the woman wanted to have intercourse and told the court: ‘She did not refuse to have sex.

‘

Today an Old Bailey jury took just 45 minutes to acquit Senior of rape.

Senior said the woman came back to his home in Edmonton, north London, on November 3, last year.

He said they ended up kissing after she asked him for a light for her cigarette.

It was claimed Senior held the woman’s arms and forced himself on her.

But Senior said: ‘She did not refuse to have sex.

Her hands were free.

I did no holding of hands.

‘

Gopal Hooper, prosecuting, asked him: ‘You forced yourself on the woman didn’t you Mr Senior?

Senior replied: ‘No.

‘

He told jurors the woman became upset because she discovered he had children.

Senior said: ‘Maybe because I told her about my kids in Jamaica.

I think she is unhappy about it.

‘

Senior of (81) Walbrook House, Huntingdon Road, Edmonton, had denied rape.

Wearing a dark suit with checked shirt he showed no emotion as he was cleared of the charge.
