Athletics governing body admits causing shot putter death
The governing body of British athletics admitted corporate manslaughter after a metal throwing cage fell on a Paralympic shot-putter’s head. United Arab Emirates Paralympian Abdullah Hayayei, 36, died at Newham Leisure Centre in east London on 11 July 2017 as he trained for the World Paralympic Athletics Championships. The cage used for discus throwers and shot putters fell apart because it did not have a proper base structure.
