Police station worker nicked purse to go shopping
A police worker did her food shopping at Iceland with the money she found in a purse handed over by an honest member of the public.
Agnes Alexander, 60, was working at Walworth police station in south London when the pink purse containing £70 was brought to the front desk.
Alexander thanked the member of the public but did not take her details or log the property.
During that 2-10pm shifts he popped down to the supermarket and spent part of the money, Camberwell Magistrates’ Court heard.
District Judge Green said: ‘Normally people go to a police station and expect integrity, this damages public confidence.’
Alexander, of Oakhurst Road, Enfield, north London, admitted theft.
She will be sentenced tomorrow after a probation report is prepared and remains suspended from her job.
