Dying boss dodges jail after slush fund scandal

A corrupt project manager who received more than £290,000 in bribes escaped jail after a judge heard he is seriously ill and will die without a liver transplant. Roger Dewhirst, 59, was lavished with huge payments in return for awarding contracts to companies bidding to refurbish commercial properties across the country.
