Gas fitter spared jail over bogus boiler safety certificates

A handyman who forged a safety certificate for a boiler weeks before it sprang a potentially deadly gas leak was spared jail today (MON). Brian Winters, 35, falsely claimed to be a registered engineer when he signed off the central heating system at a house in Winchester Road, Edmonton, north London.
