Homework ‘killers’ remanded

Two teenage brothers accused of stabbing a student to death as he made a homework video were remanded in custody today (tues).

Anas Mezenner, 17, was knifed while he carried out a project with his schoolmates in the street Tottenham, north London on 19 January.

Another schoolboy, who cannot be named, survived after being chased and stabbed during the same incident.

The brothers, aged 14 and 16, who also cannot be named, are accused of murdering Mr Mezenner and attempting to murder his friend.

The 14-year-old appeared in the dock at the Old Bailey while his brother was on a video-link from Cookham Wood young offenders’ institution in Kent.

Jonathan Polnay, prosecuting said: ‘This is an allegation of murder, whereby a group of young men including these defendants, very deliberately armed themselves with long bladed weapons, were another group, there being no immediate provocation…were unarmed.'(sic)

Judge Mark Dennis earlier described it as a ‘deliberate and unprovoked attack on a small group of teenagers who were innocently going about their business out in the streets making a film for their college work.’

The brothers, both from north London, are charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of an article with a blade or point namely a ‘hunter’s style knife’.

They were remanded in custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on 13 April.
