Judge slams London knife crime epidemic
A senior judge slammed London’s knife crime epidemic when a man accused of stabbing a youngster to death in the street appeared in court today (WED).
Seun McMillan, 23, became the seventh victim to be fatally stabbed in the capital in 10 days when he was attacked in Cowper Gardens, Southgate, north London, on 2 May.
Mr McMillan, known as ‘Shey’, was rushed to Barnet Hospital by his friends after being knifed in the abdomen at 7.15pm, but doctors could do nothing to save him and pronounced him dead just over an hour later.
Jarrad O’Field, 20, was arrested and charged with Mr McMillan’s murder on 27 August and appeared at the Old Bailey today (WED).
He is yet to enter pleas to one count of murder and one count of possession of a bladed article.
Judge Michael Topolski, QC, said: ‘This is sadly yet another case of a young man dying at the hands of another by use of a knife.
‘On the 2 May this year the victim was stabbed in the abdomend and died from those injuries.’
The judge said the three-week murder trial will take place of 19 February 2018 following a plea and trial preparation hearing at the Old Bailey on 16 November.
O’Field, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody.
