Neighbour taunted with noisy porn firms

A noisy neighbour played pornographic films on full volume after a woman asked him to turn his music down so she could get some sleep.

Anya Nawesi, 38, shouted ‘this is my house’ before drowning out her complaints with a soundtrack of sexual grunts and squeals.

She was so distressed she called police to their block of flats in Newington Green, north London.

The next day Nawesi confronted her as she got off the bus and told her: ‘I did that to show you. I’m a gangster.’

Nawesi admitted harassment and will be sentenced next month.

Stratford Magistrates Court heard Nawezi was playing music loudly at his home at around 10pm on 13 December last year.

Qadeer Mirza, prosecuting, said: ‘It prevented the complainant from sleeping. She was living apparently directly above.

‘At around 11 o’clock, the complainant tapped on the floor, as the music was too loud.

‘At approximately 11.15pm, the defendant shouted something like “this is my house” and then proceeded to play pornographic films loudly.

‘This caused distress to the complainant by the sound and the police were called.’

The next day Nawesi spotted his neighbour as she got off a bus at Newington Green at around 7.25pm.

He walked up to her and said ‘We are neighbours. Love thy neighbour’, before adding, ‘You shouldn’t have called the police on me.’

When the woman told him to leave her alone and asked him to stop playing ponographic films loudly, he replied: ‘I did that to show you. I know people.’

Nawesi said: ‘I know people. I’m a gangster.’

Mr Mirza told the court: ‘When the traffic lights changed and the complainant walked away, the defendant walked after her and said: “You are a fucking bitch. You know that you are a racist little bitch.”

‘This was shouted at her from some distance. The police were unable to attend, but the complainant called her other neighbour to meet her to accompany her safely.’

Nawesi, of [3] Kingsley House, Shakespeare Walk, Newington Green, was charged with one count of harassment without violence.

The prosecution offered no evidence on a charge of intimidation of a witness.
