‘Murder in the jailhouse’

A prisoner appeared in court today (thurs) charged with murdering a fellow inmate at HMP Exeter. Steven Kempster, 65, was found dead in his cell at 5.40am on Monday (15). James Desborough, 39, was charged with murdering Mr Kempster later that day. Wearing a grey prison tracksuit, bearded Desborough appeared at Exeter Magistrates’ Court speaking only to confirm his personal details.
