Tourist admits £50,000 VAT scam on designer goods

A Malaysian tourist who fleeced the taxman out of nearly £50,000 in a VAT scam on designer goods from Harrods is facing jail today (Mon). Lokewan Wong, 27,  filed up to 70 false claims on luxury items worth nearly £250,000 in what the prosecution described as a ‘high-level sophisticated operation’. Wong claimed £48,416.57 back in VAT on purchases of goods from the world famous department store by depositing fraudulent claim forms at airports. Non-EU nationals are entitled to VAT refunds…
