Serco hit with £2.25m fine after prisoner kicks court guard to death

Security giant Serco was fined £2.25m  for breaching health and safety laws after a custody officer was kicked to death by a prisoner in the cells at court. The government security contractor failed to ensure the safety of Lorraine Barwell, 54, when she was killed to death by Humphrey Burke in June 2015. Serco admitted failing to discharge general health, safety and welfare by exposing its employees to a risk of violence from prisoners between January 2014 and March 2017….
