A top Harley Street doctor told jurors on Wednesda
A top Harley Street doctor told jurors on Wednesday how he
was ‘ravished’ in the shower by a pretty blonde secretary during
a blind date.
Thomas Courtney, a 46-year-old gynaecologist, denies drugging
and raping two women and indecently assaulting two others, the
Old Bailey heard.
The well built six foot four inch doctor dressed in a smart
grey suit wearing half moon glasses spoke with a strong Irish
accent.
He insisted that not only did the 26-year-old woman allow
him to make love to her at his surgery but for a second time
that night on a sofa bed.
He said that Miss ‘A’ had arranged to go to his surgery so he
could give her a lift to a dinner party.
‘I saw it as a blind date,’ he said.
Dr.
Courtney added that the host of the dinner party had
told him that the pretty blonde was a ‘vivacious and attractive
woman who knew what she wanted and was not slow in coming forward.
‘
The doctor went on: ‘I asked if she was sexually assertive
because I like women like that and if she did the businesss.
She said ”yes.
” I got the distinct feeling that if she found
me attractive she would not have any reservations about doing
what she wanted to do.
‘
The court heard that Miss ‘A’ arrived from her home in
Newcastle upon Tyne at about 6pm at the doctor’s surgery.
He said that he opened a bottle of champagne and poured them
both a glass.
He denied putting drugs in either the champagne
bottle of the glasses.
‘Absolutely not,’ the doctor said.
He admitted that he found the blonde attractive and said that
she drank about two thirds of the bottle of champagne.
He then told her that he was going to have a shower before
driving to the dinner party.
She accepted his invitation to
continue their conversation in the bathroom.
The court heard that the doctor stripped off and got in
the shower while she sat on a window ledge.
‘I asked her if she wanted to join me.
She smiled, sipped
a little champagne, took out her earrings and got in the shower.
She held her hair up and back so it didn’t get wet.
I soaped her
down.
She did not object.
She turned around and asked me to
wash her back.
She was touching my penis with her hands
initially.
Then she turned around and touched my penis with
her buttocks,’ he recalled.
The court heard that the pair got out of the shower and
he laid a towel on the bathroom floor.
‘I lay down and she got on top.
We were kissing and
cuddling and we had intercourse,’ he said.
Dr.
Courtney, who runs a foundation that specialises in
Aids, was asked why he did not use a condom by Mr.
Anthony
Arlidge QC defending.
‘It was a very spontaneous thing that happened.
The condoms
were four flights downstairs in the surgery.
I was not going
to break off, rush downstairs and get condoms,’ he said.
The court heard that the pair went downstairs wrapped in
towels and the secretary rang their hosts to tell them they
would be late.
‘I made a comment over her shoulder as she was on the
telephone that she had just ravished me in the shower.
There was
a little bit of laughing from the other end of the phone,’ he said.
The court heard that the pair arrived after 9pm at the
dinner party in Forest Hill, London SE.
During the meal the secretary went upstairs and was
found giggling on the toilet floor.
‘I thought she was drunk,’ the doctor said.
He added that she regained her senses after being given
coffee and water and the pair were both invited to stay the
night on a sofa bed.
‘She went to the toilet to take her makeup off.
I got into
bed.
She came back, switched the light off and got into bed.
We cuddled and kissed.
She was wearing underwear.
We both took
it off.
We then made love,’ the doctor said.
