Alfonso Stanbury, 38, cycled to the 42-year-old woman’s home after a drinking session and subjected her to an hour-long assault.
Stanbury had also been accused of trying to rape the lady during the terrifying attack.
But the jury cleared the father-of-two of attempted rape.
Minutes later Stanbury’s head sunk in despair after the panel convicted him of unlawful wounding in respect of the events of Mother’s Day last April 2.
Stanbury, of Laker Court, Studley Estate, Stockwell, denied the charges.
Giving evidence he even claimed SHE turned violent after he refused her sexual advances.
Stanbury said he was left to fight her off when she bit his face.
‘Her teeth were locked into my cheeks like a pitbull,’ he claimed.
The victim, who lived alone in Catford, southeast London, had known Stanbury for several years, and he visited her home on several occasions to do DIY.
She had just returned home from a gym trip, and was heading to bed when he arrived.
The trial heard how the atmosphere turned nasty when Stanbury made a pass on her and she turned him down.
He pulled out her hair extensions as he tried to drag her upstairs and bit her face, the court heard.
And when she struggled he punched her in the face.
As his victim tried to call police he battered her around the head with the phone until it shattered.
And her hand was slashed when hit her with a glass.
Giving evidence she had told the court that Stanbury was ‘a Jekyll and Hyde character.
‘
She said: ‘He kept saying that he wanted me.
I said No! I didn’t want to know.
The he started pulling off my clothes.
He grabbed hold of me by the hair and started dragging me out of the room and tried to get me upstairs.
‘Then he wanted me to hug him.
He was a Jekyll and Hyde character.
That’s how I would describe him.
‘
The complainant managed to go upstairs where she bathed her swollen face with a flannel.
‘He had bitten me below the right eye and it was swollen.
‘
As she went downstairs to the dining room to try and call police Stanbury returned to attack her.
‘I picked it up and started to dial, but he took it off me and started to beat me with it,’ she told the court.
‘I was talking away as I thought I might have got through.
When the phone smashed there was a glass on the table and he hit me with that.
‘
The traumatised woman finally fled her home only to discover that she had left her car keys in the house.
Ringing on the doorbell Stanbury let her in, and she collected her keys before driving to report the attack at Catford police station with a bloody towel wrapped around her hand.
She was taken to Lewisham Hospital where she received 8 stitches for the wounds to her hands.
The cowardly attacker then cycled home to bed.
Officers raced to his Stockwell home, where they forced the door to find Stanbury asleep naked under his duvet.
They noticed scratch marks over his body and bruised knuckles.
The court heard Stanbury was no stranger to violence.
He was jailed for 9 months in September 1994 at Kingston Crown Court for unlawful wounding – although no details of that attack were available.
Jailing Stanbury for two years Judge Leonard Gerber told him:
‘This is a serious attack in both the extent of the injuries that she suffered, and the fact that clearly when she was bleeding you showed no concern.
‘One can see from your display in the witness box that you have a problem with your temper,’ the judge added.
