Miss Poulet said Walker carried out the operations ‘in in enthusiastic desire to put Blackpool on the map.

‘This clearly seems to be his aim when he was there.

Unfortunately his skills were insufficient when he tired to achieve that aim,’ Miss Poulet added.

Consultant physician Dr Peter Hayes, the medical director of the Blackpool hospital, said he was impressed by Walker’s approach.

‘He was really very enthusiastic,’ Mr Hayes said,

The committee heard in a leaflet announcing his arrival at the hospital Mr Walker said he planned ‘to work energetically to give the hospital a unit we can be proud of.
