A woman wept today (FRI) as she told of her rape ordeal at the hands of sex killer John Duffy and his evil accomplice.

The woman was 23 when she was allegedly snatched by the pair at a London railway station 17 years ago.

She said she was dragged across the train tracks to a bridge, where they both raped her.

And she claimed the attack was so brutal that she could hardly breathe and thought she would suffocate.

One of six female jurors held her head in her hands as the woman told how she was forced to her knees during a particulary repulsive stage of the perverted sexual assault.

The victim, now aged 39, was waiting at Hampstead railway station after visiting her boyfriend on June 3, 1984, when the two men pounced.

She said she had missed her train and was sat in the waiting room reading a book when she saw them coming.

The woman, from St Albans, Herts, told the Old Bailey: ‘I looked to my left to where the stairs were and they were coming across the bridge.

‘I watched them walk down the stairs towards the waiting room.

As soon as I saw them I had an uneasy feeling that they were not coming to get a train, so I took my money out of my purse and put it in my shoe.

‘Then I just sat and waited.

They stood outside for a short while looking at the board, and then they came in.

‘

The mousey-haired woman said the men asked her about train times, before Mulcahy – who she referred to as the taller man – made a move.

She recalled: ‘The taller man seemed to get behind me and got hold of me.

He pulled out a knife.

‘The other man had hold of me as well and they took me out of the station.

They led me along the platform and we went across the tracks.

‘The ground was very muddy and lumpy.

When we got beneath the bridge that is when we stopped.

‘They were very threatening, saying that I would be okay as long as I did what they said.

‘They had a knife and said they would cut me if I didn’t do as I was told.

All I could say was ”Please don’t hurt me”.

‘Then I felt another knife in my right-hand side.

There were two knives.

They wanted me to take my clothes off, so I did.

‘

The woman wept as she told how Mulcahy threatened to cut off her nipples and butcher her private parts if she didn’t comply, and said she struggled for breath during the attack.

She said: ‘They laid me down and got some black tape out.

They cut some off and put it over my eyes.

‘They tried to put some over my mouth which I didn’t let them do.

I was very frightened as I cannot stand anything over my mouth.

‘I felt I was going to suffocate.

I pleaded with them not to do it, and they said ”Okay, as long as you are quiet we will leave it off”.

‘When the taller man raped me, I was having difficulty breathing because he was so heavy and the bulk of his body wieght was on my head.

‘I was struggling, trying to breathe.

He was just threatening, saying he was going to cut me up.

‘

After they had finished, Mulcahy and Duffy told ordered the woman not to report the attack.

They said they had ‘escaped’ from a nearby hostel, and told her they had her address and would get her if she told anyone.

The jury has heard how the woman was the fourth victim in a series of brutal sex attacks carried out by Mulcahy and Duffy near railway lines in the 1980s.

It ended with the murders of 19-year-old Alison Day, Dutch schoolgirl Maartje Tamboezer, 15, and newly-wed LWT secretary Anne Lock, 29.

Former carpenter Duffy is serving seven life sentences for murdering Miss Day and Miss Tamboezer, and raping five other women.

Last year he pleaded guilty to another 17 sex attacks – including the rape of Miss Lock – and shopped ex-plasterer and taxi driver Mulcahy as his partner in crime.

Pint-sized Duffy – dubbed the ‘Railway Rapist’ for the attacks – claimed he wanted to ‘clear his conscience’, and alleges that Mulcahy was the prime mover during their reign of terror.

Mulcahy, of Beaumont Walk, Hampstead, denies the three murders, rapes in West Hampstead in October 1982, Barnes, south-west London, in January 1984, Highgate in June 1984; two rapes on Hampstead Heath in July 1984; and rapes at Brent Cross in January 1985 and Hampstead Heath in March 1985.

He also denies conspiring with Duffy to rape women in Hampstead in March 1983, Highgate in July 1984, and Hampstead in January, February, and March 1985.

The trial continues.
