A market trader who slashed a bailiff with a mache
A market trader who slashed a bailiff with a machete when he tried to unplug his video recorder was jailed for 27 months today.
(MON).
Tiny Monuhor Miah, 41, answered his front door to two debt collectors and shouted: ‘I am not going to pay any more debts.
‘
The 5ft 4ins assailant then armed himself with two 18-inch vegetable choppers and swung them at six-footer Terry Ives, screaming: ‘I am going to chop you.
‘
Father-of-three Miah hurled one of the blades at the terrified bailiff’s head and chased him out the flat.
Miah and his two brothers, one dressed just in a sarong, then took swipes at Mr Ives.
The men grappled outside Miah’s front door and Mr
Ives was left with gaping wounds to his hand, buttocks and head.
Miah had denied the attack, claiming Mr Ives cut himself as he fell over the doorstep.
But earlier this year a jury at Southwark Crown Court found guilty of wounding Mr Ives with intent.
Mr Ives and his colleague Chris Goodwill had visited Miah to collect pnds stlg 230 for red-route parking fines.
As the pair unplugged Miah’s video recorder, he lunged at Mr Ives with the machete.
Mr Ives said: ‘Miah took a swipe at me with the machete cutting my hand.
‘Once he chopped my hand he raised it above my head as if to hit me on the head.
‘I took hold off his wrist and his throat and grappled with him.
‘Because the blade is so long, as he lowered the machete it pinged my head and pierced my head.
‘I then felt a sharp pain to my buttocks.
‘
After the attack, Mr Ives received seven stitches in his hand.
He was also treated for a cut to the head and a seven cm gash to his buttocks.
Miah, of (44) Barnsley Street, Bethnal Green, who was the only man charged over the incident, denied the attack on January 9 last year.
The judge Mr Recorder Anthony Mitchell QC jailed Miah for two years and three months.
