SERTIMA: BOTTLE THUG FACES JAIL
A thug who smashed a man over the head with a bottle and used the broken glass to stab him and his cousin is facing jail today (Thurs).
Scaon Van-Sertima, 27, launched the unprovoked attack at the Heaven nightclub in the West End.
At Southwark Crown Court today he was convicted on counts of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and unlawful wounding.
Mark Modupe, 22, was bottled simply for ‘looking’ at the defendant who was pushing a woman around on the dancefloor.
The 27-year-old shouted: ‘So you think you’re bad? I’ll kill you,’ before bringing the bottle down over the first victim’s head.
He then picked up the broken glass, ‘held it like a dagger’ and stabbed him.
Jevan Levy, 21, Mr Modupe’s cousin, stepped in to help but he too was stabbed and left with blood pouring from his arm.
Van-Sertima and a female friend walked out of the club screaming ‘mother f**kers’ at the victims.
The victims had their wounds stitched in hospital and Van-Sertima, a shop assistant at a store in Oxford Street, was arrested at work the next day.
He denied the attacks claiming he had been acting in self-defence.
Van-Sertima, of Simmons Road, Woolwich, was convicted of one count of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and one of unlawful wounding on February 8 last year.
He was remanded in custody until he is sentenced on June 1.
