GREGORY-SAYCE:ELVIS-OBSESSED POSTIE SPARED JAILHOUSE ROCK

An Elvis-obsessed postie who was caught red handed stealing hundreds of parcels from a delivery office has been spared a spot of Jailhouse Rock by a judge.
Elvis Memphis Jedhi (corr) Gregory-Sayce changed his name by deed poll in a tribute to the King of Rock ‘n ‘Roll.
The 42-year-old had been a postie for more than 16 years when Royal Mail launched a surveillance operation against him.
A member of the public spotted the defendant, who has a greying quiff and a tattoo of a guitar on his forearm, opening mail and discarding it.
Post Office investigators were called in and they found debris from 40 parcels littered around the delivery office in Ilford, east London, where he worked.
Gregory-Sayce, a fan of classics like Memphis Tennessee and Return to Sender, kept his head bowed throughout the hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court today.
But he smiled when the judge told him a nine-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work.
The father-of-two has already been sacked from his job after being found guilty of gross misconduct.
Anthony Lenaghan, prosecuting, said undercover investigators had observed Gregory-Sayce putting parcels he was not due to deliver into his trolley at the depot.
‘He consented to a search of his trolley, clothing and his address. In the search of his trolley, 11 packets were discovered that were not for delivery by him.
‘In the search of his clothing, a Samsung mobile phone was discovered.
‘There were at least 100 items recovered from his home address and they were all DVD type items or low value electrical goods.
‘The cost was no more than £1,000 in total.’
The court heard that Gregory-Sayce had been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder and has been referred for cognitive behaviour therapy and counselling.
Passing sentence the judge, Miss Recorder Patricia Lees QC said: ‘I take into account that you are a family man and clearly, other than these offences, are a model citizen and someone who supports his family and is a useful member of the community.’
Gregory-Sayce, of (25) St Edmund’s Road, Ilford, admitted three charges of theft.
