Accused killer of this man in court
An alleged killer charged with stabbing a man through the heart has been remanded in custody.
Chester Goffe, 57, was found with two knife wounds to his chest at a flat in Hicken Road, Brixton, in the early hours of 11 February.
He was rushed to a south London hospital where he died a short time later. The cause of death was given as a stab wound to his heart.
Peter Lalgie-Williams, 56, was charged with his murder two days later.
Silver-haired Lalgie-Williams appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link from HMP Thameside speaking to confirm his name and date of birth.
Serena Gates, prosecuting, said: ‘On Saturday 11 February, London ambulance services attended the flat of the defendant. Only one person was present and it appeared to be the defendant.
‘The deceased had two chest wounds, that is two stabs to the chest. The fatal one being a stab to the heart.
‘When asked what happened by London ambulance service staff, he simply said his friend collapsed after a couple of drinks with no mention of stabs to the chest.
‘The deceased was lying still face down on the floor and hence ambulance services were unable to revive him.’
Lalgie-Williams was remanded in custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on 3 May.
At the time of the incident Met Police said: ‘An urgent investigation is under way, led by detectives from Specialist Crime and supported by colleagues from the Met’s Central South BCU. One man, aged in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.
‘A crime scene is in place at the block of flats in Hicken Road and forensic examination of the scene is ongoing. Local people can expect to see additional police officers in the area in the coming days. If you have any concerns, please speak with those officers.’
