Trial next week for ‘hospital terrorist’
An accused terrorist allegedly caught with a bomb containing 13 kilos of explosives outside a maternity ward will stand trial next week.
Mohammed Farooq, 27, also had an imitation pistol when he was found at St James’ Hospital in Leeds by a student nurse in the early hours of 20 January, it is said.
A search of Farooq’s mobile phone devices revealed his interest in radical Islam and Jihad and he had been viewing material since 2020, it is claimed.
Farooq, of Hetton Road, Leeds, is charged with committing acts of terrorism, one count of possession of an explosive substance and one count of possession of an imitation firearm.
He appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from HMP Wakefield and spoke only to confirm his name.
It was confirmed his trial will now start at Sheffield Crown Court next tuesday (17).
