A debt-ridden dentist who spent six weeks in jail

A debt-ridden dentist who spent six weeks in jail for a pnds stlg 45,000 mortgage loan scam was allowed to continue working without sanction today (THUR).

Clive Legg, 44, dishonestly attempted to get the cash from several different lenders over a seventeen month period between April 1997 and September 1998.

He was convicted of obtaining services by deception, attempting to obtain pecuniary advantage by deception, using a copy of a false instrument and using a false instrument at St Albans Crown Court on June 14, 1999.

Legg was sentenced to six months imprisonment but only spent six weeks in confinement with another six months released under the tagging system.

The conviction was considered by the General Dental Council in September 2000 but no decision was made on the action to be taken against the dentist.

Today they decided to close the case after reviewing his conduct over the past year.

Legg is now in debt to the tune of pnds stlg 187,000 and is attempting to avoid bankruptcy through a voluntary agreement with his creditors.

Legg, now registered at Scotts Sufference Wharf, Mill Street, Southwark, south London, is now free to continue working.
