A father was stabbed twice in his own home by a raider
intent on stealing the jewellery from his hands, the Old Bailey
heard.

Neil Amos, 21, knocked on the door of Mr Randall Roye’s
Balham flat and barged his way in when Mr Roy’s girlfriend
answered the door, the jury was told.

Amos allegedly ran straight to the bedroom where father
of two Mr Roye, 23, was asleep, wearing his two rings and a heavy
gold braclet.

The girlfriend, Miss Deborah Brunton, screamed a warning
but before Mr Roye could move Amos had jumped on his bed, said
prosecutor Miss Sally Howes.

Miss Brunton ran to get help from a neighbour while
Amos pinned her boyfriend to the bed, claimed counsel.

‘Without saying anything the defendant stabbed him in the
left side of his stomach.

‘He was then stabbed a second time in the right armpit,
saying: “I want the rings” – and struggled to take them from
his hands.

The father managed to get to his feet on the bed and
fight with Amos who again slashed out with the knife, but
missed.

The pair wrestled towards the front door past Mr Roye’s
daughters, aged three and seven months.

Amos managed to open the door and he dashed out of
the corridor.

One of the neighbours who had been alerted by Miss
Brunton recognised Amos as he ran away from the block
in Nightingale Square.

Mr Roye was later treated in hospital for the two stab
wounds which fortunately missed his vital organs.

He has since
made a full recovery.

Police at the scene found a set of keys for Amos’s home
in Cromwell House, Charlotte Despard Avenue, Battersea.

He declined to answer questions when arrested and
interviewed by police.

Amos denies attempted murder and wounding with intent on
July 16 last year.
