A patient of sex scandal doctor Victor Calland planned to sell his story to the News of the World for thousands of pounds, the GMC heard today.

The 35-year-old junkie, known as Mr B, was approached by the newspaper after he appeared in court in 1996 for forging a prescription, and claimed his GP had tried to drug him for gay sex.
The fair-haired man stood to make a fortune from the deal, but it later fell through, the hearing was told.
He is one of two male patients who claim that Dr Calland, 47, tried to coax them into sex acts using methadone and morphine prescriptions as bait.
Mr B has told the committee that Dr Calland would regularly hug him during appointments at his Preston surgery, and even set him up in a house nextdoor to his own so he could continue to give him methadone.
And today (tue) the father-of-two denied that he intended to ‘rubbish’ the GP.
Dr Calland’s barrister Malcolm Fortune told the committee the man had had talks with journalists from the News of the World.
He asked the man: ‘When you were approached by the paper, that was your opportunity to go public about Dr Calland, and you would be paid a large sum of money – no doubt thousands of pounds – to rubbish him.

The witness replied: ‘No.
‘
Mr Fortune then asked: ‘To support your story did you try to get other people you knew who were patients of Dr Calland?’
He again replied simply: ‘No.

Mr B also revealed how Dr Calland had recommended that he treat his obsession with needles by using acupuncture.
The patient told the hearing: ‘I remember that he gave me a couple of acupuncture needles to try in an area of my hand.
I had to put them in my hand to see if it did anything for me.
‘It did give me a little sensation.
‘
Mr B, who also claimed that Dr Calland once injected methadone into his backside so that he could come onto him, denies trying to blackmail the doctor.
He also rubbished claims that he had boasted to the GP at his surgery in Fishergate Hill, Preston, that he was having a relationship with a male bisexual drugs user.
Yesterday the committee heard from another patient, 39-year-old Mr A, who claimed that he was sexually abused by Dr Calland on a regular basis for six years in return for drug prescriptions.
DR Calland, of Broadgate, Preston, denies 10 charges including indecent behaviour and abusing his professional position in relation to Mr A, and making sexual advances to Mr B and improper and excessive prescribing of methadone to Mr B.
