Alleged wife killer denies murder

A husband accused of strangling his estranged wife to death has denied murder.

Martin Cavanagh, 35, is said to have throttled 31-year-old Sophie Cavanagh at her Bromley flat.

Ms Cavanagh’s dead body was discovered in the bedroom on 20 May this year with a pathologist’s report later indicating that the cause of death was strangling.

Cavanagh handed himself in to the police on 24 May and appeared at the Old Bailey today (weds) via video link wearing a short-sleeved white shirt and tie to plead not guilty to a single count of murder.

Judge Anthony Leonard QC remanded him in custody ahead of his trial which has been fixed for 19 November.

Cavanagh, of Dryden House, Chatterton, Bromley, south London, denies murder.

He will stand trial at the Old Bailey in November.
