Bulgarian spies were ‘amateurish but calculated and determined’

Three Bulgarian spies were amateurish but were involved in ‘high level espionage with very high stakes,’ a court heard. One of the agents, Tihomir Ivanchev, 39, was hired to fly a drone to film a Russian dissident in Montenegro but crashed into the sea. Prosecutor Alison Morgan KC told the Old Bailey jury: ‘If you are asked to find humour and or incompetence or to laugh off their activities as amateurish, I would ask you just to remember the context….
