Conman who ‘took more flights than Alan Whicker’ with church money admits fraud

A Church of England boss who ‘took more flights than Alan Whicker’ with the proceeds of a £5.2 million fraud is facing jail. Martin Sargeant, 52, was head of operations for the Diocese of London, which controls churches and their coffers in the capital. He requested cash for ‘dysfunctional churches’ and the money went straight into his pocket – and out again. Sargeant, who claims he is addicted to gambling, took over 180 flights as he jetted around the world…
