Council fined for death blaze blunders
Southwark Council was today (tues) fined £270,000 for breaching fire regulations after a tower block blaze that left six people dead. Three children, including a three-week-old baby, and three women died as flames tore through the fourteen-storey Lakanal House in Camberwell on July 3, 2009. The blaze, which injured at least 20, had been sparked by an electrical fault with a television inside a ninth floor flat at the building.
