Egg smuggler may avoid a bit of bird

A notorious smuggler of rare bird eggs may escape extradition because he has terminal prostate cancer, a court heard. Jeffrey Lendrum, 59, was caught in Brazil with four albino falcon eggs stolen from Patagonia and jailed for four-and-a-half years in October 2015. But he fled Brazil when he was released on bail to appeal against his sentence. Brazilian prosecutors are now seeking his extradition so that he can serve his sentence.
