Former mayor’s French bulldog was dangerously out of control
A former Labour councillor is facing a possible jail term after his ‘dangerously out control’ French bulldog attacked a woman outside his home.
Philip Normal, 43, the former mayor of Lambeth, was charged after his mutt Noah injured Princella Kusi in Walworth, southeast London.
Ms Kusi suffered a ‘puncture wound on her right thigh’ during the incident in Amelia Street on 4 August 2024, said Aesha Baral, prosecuting.
Noah has since been put down, Croydon Magistrates’ Court heard.
Normal admitted one count of being in charge of a dangerously out of control causing injury.
The charge, under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, carries the maximum sentence of five years jail.
Normal had told LGBTQ+ news website Openly that he ‘shares a home with his partner Matthew Doyle and their French bulldog, Noah.’
Abi Day, defending, asked for reports to be prepared ahead of sentencing on December 12 at the same court.
District Judge Nigel McLean released Normal on unconditional bail.
Normal had his own stint in politics. He became a Labour councillor and Mayor for Lambeth in 2020, becoming Britain’s first openly HIV-positive Mayor.
He resigned in 2022 after he branded Muslims as extremists and likened Muslim women to penguins.
Normal is now a fashion designer and runs a graphics design business in Brixton Village where he sells slogan T-shirts.
He once released a T-shirt with the slogan ‘Middle class woman of a certain age’ – a reference to the claim by Gregg Wallace, that his inappropriate sexual comments and behaviour came from ‘a handful’ of middle class women.
Another T-shirt he made included an enamel pin with the slogan: ‘F*** the Tories.’
