Killer father left baby unable to breathe

A father left his four-week-old daughter with severe brain damage and unable to breathe after he threw her across a room when she would not stop crying, a court heard. Maisie Newell was hurled ‘four to five feet’ across the bedroom by her father, 46-year-old Dean Smith, on 26 August 2000, when she was just four weeks old.
