NHS boss spared jail for bin liner suicide
An NHS boss who failed to remove bin bags from a hospital toilet where a suicidal woman killed herself was spared jail. Benjamin Aninakwa, 54, was manager of an acute psychiatric ward at Goodmayes Hospital, where Alice Figueiredo, 22, was found dead on 7 July 2015. He had been on a ‘performance improvement plan’ for three years before Ms Figueiredo took her own life. The NHS Trust which ran the ward was fined £565,000 today.
