Roksana Lecka ‘abused 12 children at the nursery’

A woman charged with assaulting 12 children at a private nursery has been remanded in custody today ahead of her trial next February.

Roksana Lecka, 21, is accused of 25 charges relating to child cruelty and assault at Twickenham Green Montessori Nursery in Twickenham, west London.

She is charged with 12 counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a child, 12 of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

The charges relate to 12 children and are said to have taken place on 28 June.

Police investigated concerns about the welfare of children at the school after being alerted on 2 July.

The nursery follows the Montessori method of teaching catering to children’s ‘natural interest and activities’ instead of formal lessons.

The school caters for children aged four and under and charges fees ranging from £589 to £1,893.

Lecka, of Hounslow, appeared at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court today (weds) via video link from HMP Bronzefield wearing a grey jumper with her hair in two plaits and spoke to confirm her name.

She will appear again to enter her pleas on 11 October.

Judge Jonathan Davies set a provisional four week trial date for 10 February.

The nursery belongs to the Riverside Nursery Schools group which has five nurseries based by the river in the Richmond area.

Prince George went to a Montessori nursery in Norfolk and Princess Diana worked as a teaching assistant at one before her marriage.

Lecka was suspended when the nursery learned of the allegations.
