Russian banker approved ‘bent’ loans
A ‘greedy’ bank official took bribes to approve loans worth hundreds of millions of pounds to finance huge gas and oil projects in former Soviet states, a court heard. Andrey Ryjenko, 44, and his sister Tatjana Sanderson, 37, allegedly received £2.2million in corrupt payments between July 2008 and November 2009. Ryjenko’s role at the publicly funded European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) included vetting applications for ‘equity investment’ by East European businesses in the oil, gas and mining sector….
