An accused rapist who allegedly preyed on a 14-year-old
schoolgirl was caught out by the distinctive tattoo on his chest,
the Old Bailey heard today Monday.

David Balmer, 25, told police that the girl’s story of a
rape ordeal in her home was a ‘total fabrication.

But the teenager described in detail of a letter
‘A’ that barman Balmer had tattooed on his chest, even though
he said she had never seen him without a shirt on, the jury
was told.

The court heard Balmer met the schoolgirl after he and
his six months pregnant girlfriend moved to Camberley, Surrey,
from Carluke, near Glasgow, in February last year.

The girl had a boyfriend she intended to marry but
within a few weeks Balmer was forcing his attentions on her, said
prosecutor Mr Anthony Scott-Gall.

‘The defendant began staring at her a lot and commenting
on her physical appearance.

‘He also tickled her tummy and she felt very uncomfortable.

‘
In April Balmer and his girlfriend went back to
Scotland, but the following month he returned alone.

Again he began pestering the girl and on occasion
molested her at the club where he worked, it was alleged.

Balmer took the girl there to pick up some glasses for
her home, but as she played the fruit machine in the empty club
he stood very close to her.

He said: ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going to rape you’ – but
then forced a kiss on her, said counsel.

‘Balmer said he wanted to make love to her but had not
been able to find the right time until then.

The girl told him to leave her alone but over the next
few days he kept pestering her, ‘making sly suggestions they
should make love.

‘
On May 28 last year he was at the girl’s Camberley home
during her half term.

‘He suggested she get into bed with him and they have
sex,’ said Mr Scott-Gall.

‘He started touching her and stroking her bottom then
said: “Give me a kiss.

“‘
When the girl ran a bath for herself Balmer tried to get
in with her.

But she told him to ‘stop and and go away.

Balmer allegedly left her alone in the bath but then
cornered her in a bedroom, saying: ‘I know you want it, don’t deny
it.

‘
He then pulled her on to the bed and raped her,
whispering ‘Enjoy it, enjoy it,’ claimed counsel.

The girl felt ‘upset, angry and degraded’ but initially
could not bring herself to tell of her ordeal because she thought
no one would believe her.

The police were called in three days later when she
finally blurted out her story to her boyfriend.

When interviewed, Balmer claimed that the story was ‘a
total fabrication,’ and he had never approached the girl.

He admitted he had the tattoo but said the girl had never
seen him with his shirt off.

The barman said the girl was jealous of the relationship
he had with his girlfriend and she had made up the story out of
spite following an argument.

Balmer denies rape.

The trial continues tomorrow Tuesday.
