A man who seriously sexually assaulted a six-year-old boy
has been jailed for five years.

Father of four George Payne, 34, was told by the judge: ‘This crime
could scarcely have been worse’.

Payne’s young victim suffered both physical and psychological
trauma from the attack, the court heard.

Despite expert counselling, he has begun mimicking with his younger
brother the abuse he suffered at Payne’s hands.

The boy now
acts the part as the abuser.

The Old Bailey was told the boy went to Payne’s flat in
Aylesbury House, Friary Estate, Peckham, to watch cartoons.

Posecutor Mr Brian Reece said the boy told his mother and the
police were called in.

It was soon discovered that the little boy had been
subjected to a serious sexual assault (buggery) in the
one hour he had spent at the flat.

DNA tests later provided ‘overwhelming’ evidence linking Payne to
the attack but he maintained his innocence both to police and
psychiatrists.

But in court he admitted buggery.

The judge was told Payne had a string of convictions for dishonesty
and violence but none for sex offences of any sort.

Det Con Alan Purvis said the boy had continued to suffer the
effects of the attack.

‘His schooling has suffered and he had acted out role play with his
younger brother of the type of things that happened to him.

‘
Mr Ignatius Fessal, defending, asked the judge to give his client
credit for his guilty plea, which spared the boy the added trauma
of giving evidence.

Mr Justice Alliott told Payne the confession was the only thing
he could give him credit for.

Jobless Payne did not react as he was sentenced to five years
jail.
