The gift of a knuckle duster landed a roofer in the dock
after cops found the vicious weapon down his trousers.

Snaresbrook Crown Court was told that Paul Davis, 23, was one
of four people stopped by officers in Eastway, Hackney Wick, late on
January 12 this year.

He was taken to a police van and given a ‘rub down,’ said Mr
Brian Reece, prosecuting.

‘Officers noticed there was a heavy object in his jeans and
found the knuckle duster in his underwear,’ continued counsel.

The court heard that on the surface of the weapon Davis’s
nickname ‘Scouse’ was scratched.

Davis, of Hilldrup Road, West Thurrock, pleaded guilty to
possession of an offensive weapon.

Mr James Ageros, defending, explained that a friend of Davis had
brought the metal item down from Liverpool ‘as a rather odd gift.

‘
‘There was no connection between that knuckle duster and the
prospect of violence,’ added counsel.

Assistant Recorder Mrs Nadine Radford described the
weapon as ‘capable of causing damage’ to the intended victim.

‘If it was a gift in any event you cannot have it in a public
place.

‘
The judge fined Davis pnds stlg 100.
