A man accused of raping his stepdaughter as a present
for her 13th birthday, admitted treating her differently to his
two natural sons, but denied raping.
The Stamford Hill cab driver said it was natural that
he would feel closer to his two sons, who are younger than his
stepdaughter.
He told the Old Bailey jury he did not intentionally treat
his stepdaughter differently, ‘it just came out that way’.
He said he could not speculate why the 13-year-old would
claim that he had raped and indecently assaulted her.
The court earlier heard that the girl had contracted
a sexually transmitted disease after allegedly being raped by her
stepfather and had wanted to run away from home of escape the
torment.
A touching note, describing the teenager’s anguish and
desire to run away from home, was read out to the court.
It said ‘I love you Mum.
Dad made me sex.
P.
S.
I love
my two brothers.
‘
The court heard the girl’s mother stumbled upon the
note and immediately telephoned the police in April this year.
The man was arrested and when interviewed said the
girl was lying because ‘he’d given her a belting last week’.
He also insisted that his stepdaughter was still a
virgin and he therefore could not have raped her.
Referring to the evidence, prosecutor Ms Jane Calnan
suggested that the defendant only half penetrated his stepdaughter
in order to cover his tracks.
‘You were hoping against hope that that half-way
insertion wouldn’t show up on tests (showing whether the
girl’s hymen was broken),’ said counsel.
The stepfater replied: ‘I said that because I honestly
thought she was a virgin.
‘
Asked by defence counsel Philip Sutton how he felt when
the accusations were made, the defendant said: ‘It does tend to
rock you slightly when you hear something like that.
‘
The man denies raping and indecently assaulting his
stepdaughter and performing acts of indecency with a child.
The allegations include a claim he raped her as
a 13th birthday present.
The case continues.
