A Moslem husband accused of beating up his wife because she was too lazy to do the housework walked free from court today (FRI).

Shahryar Khan, 27, was cleared of twisting his partner Nusrat’s arm behind her back and punching her in the face.

The argument began when she challenged him about rumours going around the Pakistani community she never did any chores at home.

It was a stormy marriage arranged by their families which took place in Pakistan in October 1999.

Khan admitted pushing her away when she armed herself with a jar of pot pourri but denied causing actual bodily harm.

The jury acquitted him of the charge in under half an hour.

Prosecutor Matthew Roberts said the row took place at their home in Kingsbury, northwest London on December 10 last year.

‘It was not a happy marriage and there were several attempts at reconciliation.

‘An argument developed because Nusrat Khan had heard rumours that Shahryar Khan had been accusing her of being lazy and not doing the housework.

‘Shahryar stood up and made a gesture as if he was going to throw a mug of tea over her.

She picked up a pot pourri jar but then started crying and said: “It’s not right to accuse me of these things.

“‘

It was claimed the husband twisted her arm round her back, punched her in the back before slapping her in the face.

She shouted for her 11 year-old niece to phone the police and demanded her husband stay until they got there but he left.

He was arrested on December 29 after she decided to press charges.

Khan, of [22] Rosemead Avenue, Wembley, denied causing actual bodily harm on December 10 last year and was cheered by his friends as he left the court.
