A former world champion powerlifter who stood nake
A former world champion powerlifter who stood naked outside his home threatening to gun down police was jailed at the Old Bailey today.

Burly Jamie Carney, 33, shouted ‘I’ve got a loaded Uzi’ at cops before swallowing a cocktail of drugs and injecting cocaine and bleach into his arm.
Armed officers cordoned off the surrounding streets as crazed Carney tried to take his life during the 12-hour siege outside his home last Christmas.
Carney, who holds the World Powerlifter 1996 title, showed no emotion as he was locked up for 18 months today.
Officers were called to his home at The Chase, Wallington, Surrey, two days after last Christmas in response to reports Carney had punched his wife.
When they arrived they learned Carney, now a cobbler, had taken a potentially lethal cocktail of drugs.
He had injected himself with cocaine and swallowed more than 30 diazepam tablets, 12 paracetamols, steroids and several other powerful pain killers.
When ordered out Carney emerged naked after arming himself with an electric staplegun which looked like a machine gun, the court heard.
Prosecutor Kim Hollis said: ‘He shouted, ‘I don’t want any dealings – I’ve got a loaded Uzi.
I just want to be left alone to die.
‘
He then retreated back into his home, the court heard.
‘Such was the resemblance of the tool, police thought he was carrying a semi-automatic firearm and immediately sealed off the surrounding streets.
‘
Armed marksmen surrounded the house and police negotiators were called in to try and talk him out of his home.
But the cobbler repeated his threats to kill himself.
At one point during the 12-hour stakeout, officers and paramedics saw stocky Carney through an upstairs window injecting bleach into his arm.
Miss Hollis said: ‘Officers became concerned when they were not contacted by Carney for some time and decided to enter the home.
‘He was found in an upstairs room in a state of collapse.
There were self inflicted wounds to his arms and wrists.
‘
Carney was taken to hospital but miraculously he was not seriously harmed.
He was arrested and later told police: ‘I took all the pills I could find in the house and swallowed them with lots of water.
‘
When asked about the imitation gun, he told them: ‘I just wanted to warn them off and allow the tablets to take affect.
‘If I had enough time I knew they wouldn’t be able to pump my stomach.
‘When they found me, it was like I had awoken from a nightmare.
I thought, what have I done.
‘
Carney was locked up at Belmarsh prison where he lost more than four stone in weight.
He appeared in the dock wearing a jacket which dwarfed his former build.
The court heard how Carney was put on probation in 1998 after strolling into a police station and threatening to cut his throat with a broken vodka bottle.
Judge Richard Hawkins, QC, today (THURS) jailed Carney for 18 months after he admitted possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, in relation to the incident on December 27.
The judge told him: ‘You were having trouble with your wife and there was an incident between you both.
‘You injured yourself by taking drugs and injecting household bleach.
When the police arrived you wanted them to believe you had a firearm which they correctly thought was a machine gun.
‘You caused inconvenience to the police and all the residents in that street for more than 12 hours.
‘After reading reports I am aware you have a drug and alcohol problem but you don’t suffer from any psychopathic disorder.
‘Due to the seriousness of the offence, and in view of your previous conviction in 1998 only a custodial sentence can be justified.
